FAQ
What is therapy like?
Therapy is a personal, yet professional, relationship. Therapy is good, but sometimes scary. It's not always sunshine and rainbows, or even all that comfortable. No big deal, just sharing your life story with a near stranger! It is so important to find a good fit with a therapist. I view therapy as collaborative, where we focus on your goals together. This is your journey, and I'm here to support you on it. Sometimes you have to feel the hard stuff to heal from it. But we can do that together.
How long does therapy last?
A therapy session is a 53-minute "hour" that is scheduled weekly, biweekly, or monthly. The frequency of sessions often changes over time, based on symptoms and need. We will decide together what your treatment plan looks like, and we will adjust it periodically. Therapy ends when symptoms improve and you achieve your therapeutic goals. This looks different for everyone, and termination of therapy is collaborative.
Do you participate with my health insurance plan?
I am In-Network with Priority Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network. It is your responsibility to determine your healthcare benefits. While psychotherapy services may be covered, you may still be responsible for co-payments, deductibles, or other out-of-pocket or non-covered services. If I do not participate with your healthcare plan, you may receive services on an Out-of-Network basis. If you elect to use Out-of-Network benefits, payment is due at the time of service and I will provide you with a detailed receipt for services (a "superbill").
What is a superbill? Does it have a cape?
A "superbill" is a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for Out-of-Network benefits. A superbill will contain information about your diagnosis, length of your session, and other information your insurance company may need. It is your responsibility to determine if you have Out-of-Network benefits. I cannot guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you. A cape is not included. Insurance companies don't have that kind of sense of humor.
How do I pay for services?
A credit card must be on file and will be maintained in a HIPAA-compliant Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management system. Payment is due at the time of service. Your credit card payment will be automatically processed on the day of service. If your credit card is declined, you will not be able to schedule appointments until your balance is paid.
What is your cancellation policy?
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Details are outlined in the consent form which we will review during your first session. You will be charged the full appointment fee if you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or if you no-show the appointment. I adhere strictly to this policy so that I can offer your canceled appointment time to others.
